Glossary
What is a fund accounting?
Accounting that tracks money by its purpose rather than in one pool: operating, reserve, and special assessment funds, each with its own balance and its own statements.
In Havn
Havn's ledger is append-only and every line carries a fund, so any day's balance can be rebuilt and corrections are reversing entries, never edits.
HOA accounting softwareAssociations hold money for different purposes under different rules, so their books keep each purpose as a fund. Every charge, payment, bill, and transfer belongs to a fund, and the balance sheet and income statement can be read by fund. A transfer from operating to reserves is a recorded movement, not a disappearance.
Software built for rentals tends to add funds after the fact, as tags or classes. Software built for associations starts with them. The difference shows when an auditor asks for the reserve balance as of a date.
