What is a violation notice?

The letter telling an owner that something about their home breaks a rule, what to fix, and by when. Most states require a notice and a chance to be heard before any fine.

Also called notice of violation, courtesy notice.

In Havn

Havn's violation ladder follows the state's steps, attaches the photo, mails the letter, and lets the owner reply or mark it taken care of from the portal.

Violations

Enforcement usually runs on a ladder: a courtesy notice, then a formal notice of violation with a cure date, then a hearing before the board, then a fine or other remedy. The governing documents and the statute set the minimum notice at each step, how it must be delivered, and the owner's right to respond.

A notice should cite the rule, describe the condition, carry the photo if there is one, state the deadline, and say how to reply. Keeping the whole chain on the home's record is what makes a later fine or lien hold up.
