What is a board of directors?

The owners elected to run the association: adopt the budget, levy assessments, maintain the common areas, enforce the rules, and hire the manager. Officers are chosen from among them.

In Havn

Board seats in Havn carry the access: each director signs in to one community with view or edit rights per module, and the seat moves to the next person at election time.

People and property

Directors owe the association a fiduciary duty: to act in good faith, with care, and in the community's interest rather than their own. The bylaws set how many directors there are, how long they serve, and how they are elected and removed. The board elects the president, secretary, and treasurer from its members, and may form committees.

Boards act at meetings, by a vote recorded in the minutes. Several states limit what a board may decide outside an open meeting and require owners to be able to attend and speak.
