HOA Petition Template
Owners use a petition when they want the association to act on something the board has not: call a special meeting, put a recall on the agenda, propose an amendment, or demand an audit. The bylaws and the state act say how many signatures it takes and what the petition must state.
A petition that works is specific. It names the exact action, cites the section that gives owners the right to demand it, and collects signatures with the home address so each one can be verified against the roster.

Questions Boards Ask
How many signatures does an HOA petition need?
Whatever the bylaws and the state act set for that action. Special meetings often take ten to twenty-five percent of the members; recalls and amendments usually take more. Count owners, not signatures: two owners of one home are usually one vote.
Can the board ignore a petition?
Not a valid one. If the threshold and the form are met, the governing documents or the statute usually require the board to act within a set time, and a court can order it to.
